Why Reiki?

I get asked this question a lot; sometimes with genuine interest, but often with a degree of uncertainty or cynicism. I have always been curious to learn about alternative therapies, but I too can be sceptical and inquisitive so I understand, respect and value the importance of asking questions - and am always open to sharing my own opinions and experiences…

I first discovered Reiki in my early 20s. I had suffered from migraines for many years and having tried a host of medications and therapies with no success, I turned to Reiki. It was the first therapy to instantly ease my pain and symptoms. From that point onwards, an amazing journey of personal discovery began.

Over the past few years I have been lucky enough to meet and be treated by Reiki Practitioners and Masters from around the world, all of whom inspired and deepened my interest in their own ways. I went on to train as a Reiki Therapist after a particularly powerful and spiritual treatment in Costa Rica, knowing this incredible therapy would work in conjunction with and enhance the results of my facial treatments.

So, what is Reiki?  First and foremost it is a natural and safe therapy that everyone can use to promote healing, as well as relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing.  Reiki’s origins lie in Japan, translating to mean ‘universal life energy’.  As we know, energy nourishes and maintains all living things. When this energy flows freely there is balance and harmony within and around us – but when it’s interrupted, our wellbeing and health can be too.

Reiki involves the transfer of universal energy from the therapists’ hands to the client. Energy flows to the affected parts of the energy field, clearing and revitalising these pathways. During a treatment my hands may be placed on or off my client; working on both physical healing and the more subtle body energy within your auric field.

Reiki is often used alongside other therapeutic or medical techniques to increase their effectiveness. In my skincare treatments the benefits of Reiki go beyond relaxation and stress-reduction, working on a physical level to boost blood flow and the benefits of facial massage.  Improved microcirculation, oxygenation and cell renewal delivers skin radiance, clarity and plumpness.

As part of my holistic approach, I use crystals in my treatments to enhance the experience and results. Working intuitively, I place the crystals around my clients to treat on a physical as well as mental level.  Just like Reiki, crystals have intense healing and balancing properties to reduce stagnant, blocked energy.  I describe them as little ‘stones of therapy’!

So, while caring for your skin will always remain my primary focus, I aim to treat and rebalance your whole body from head to toe.  Reiki and crystals allow me to do just that, and I hope to share this holistic experience and all its benefits with you.
