Atitlan Silk Kimono

Atitlan Silk Kimono
Handmade on a traditional backstrap loom, using a blend of organic cotton and silk. Dyed using 100% natural plants, vegetables and fruits, by hand using the traditional Mayan Ikat process (tie-dye). Every Kimono takes approximately 2 weeks to make and each kimono for purchase has been handmade by an artisan part of the Atilan Women’s Weavers Cooperative. A collective of 27 Mayan women based in San Pedro de Atitlan, a town on Lake Atitlan, Guatemala. All of the weavers are single mothers so being part of the Co-operative ensures they receive a fair pay for their work, so they can support their family and their children can receive an education, which in Guatemala is not free.
